Building a Belief System

One of the characteristics of successful professionals is that they tend to have well-defined and well-developed belief systems. In fact, most beliefs are developed or validated through experience. In a business relationship, beliefs are a strong identifier and a great differentiator. The module has been divided into two parts -Part 1 looks at the nature of beliefs and establishes how a well-defined belief system can help build a unique identity amongst peers; Part 2 looks at how, in moments of professional dilemmas, the strength of one's belief system can pull them through.

In the first video(Part 1) we start with defining what a belief system is. The video explains that to know your beliefs, you need to look at the things you do, the way you treat, not just yourself and other people, but everything around you. Importantly, beliefs help clients build a very clear opinion about you. The video also analyses a few examples of beliefs shared by a few of our financial advisors like for example "Don't let your expenses determine your savings. Let your savings determine your expenses" and many more.

In the second video (Part 2), we look at how, in moments of professional dilemmas, the strength of our belief system can pull us through. The video also offers thoughts on what steps you could take to consciously build a robust belief system. A strong belief system means that the advisor responds to the client with conviction. If there is lack of clarity on what to do in a particular circumstance, it is a reflection of the gaps in beliefs. To illustrate this further, we walk you through some potential dilemmas that you may face like for example 'When investing in equities, should one 'buy and hold' till one needs the money or should one periodically 'book profits'?'.Lastly, the video tells us how a belief system can be built, nurtured and strengthened.
